The company has also provided details regarding the first certification of this kind for a Swiss cheese. Moreover, the entire agricultural business is operated in an energy self-sufficient manner.
Based in the St.GallenBodenseeArea, the Holzhof agricultural business specializes in pig farming and cheese production. The owners, the Wartmann family, attach great importance to closed cycles, the company writes in a press release. According to this, manure, liquid manure and vegetable waste are used in a proprietary biogas plant to produce electricity and heating. With this plus an additional photovoltaic system, the entire farm, including the cheese dairy, can be operated in an energy self-sufficient manner.
In addition, the Holzhof cheese dairy recently produced the first certified climate-neutral cheese in Switzerland, the company explains further in the press release. In specific terms, the Holzhof cheese dairy has been awarded the Certified CO2 Neutral label by Swiss Climate. With this certification, the consulting company, which specializes in CO2 management, confirms that the dairy prepares its greenhouse gas inventory in accordance with the ISO standard and that the business complies with the guidelines of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. In addition, the certification ensures that the dairy will commit to implementing measures aimed at continuously reducing emissions.
