Nüssli building stadium for the ESAF
Hüttwilen - Nüssli is again responsible for constructing the stadium for the Swiss Wrestling and Alpine Festival for the 22nd time overall this year. The temporary arena has a capacity of 50,900 spectators across six stands.
Nüssli, the events construction specialist from the St.GallenBodenseeArea, was asked for the 22nd time to handle the construction of the arena for the Swiss Wrestling and Alpine Festival (ESAF), which is set to take place from August 26 to 28 in Pratteln in the canton of Basel-Landschaft. Since 1961, the company from Hüttwilen in the canton of Thurgau has been responsible for building the arena for Switzerland’s biggest sporting and cultural event, further details of which can be found in a press release. The arena has six stands and an overall capacity of 50,900 spectators, making it one of the largest temporary stadia in the world.
In addition to the festival site, an athletes’ village has also been created. In order to connect this with the festival site, the ten-strong Nüssli team opted to build a temporary pedestrian bridge over the nearby train line. Nüssli was supported by the Swiss Army and Civil Defence in its efforts, with as many as 300 people on site during the construction process at peak times.
While the majority of the 300,000 individual construction elements were transported to Pratteln in the Basel Area from projects in Switzerland, certain components such as staircase and roof elements as well as the company’s premium grandstand for VIP guests had to be brought in from abroad and other major international projects.
Once the wrestling champion has been crowned, Nüssli will start to dismantle the temporary arena and transport the construction elements to its next event.
