The OST – Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences has opened a new Institute for Intelligent Systems and Smart Farming in Tänikon. According to a press release, this new research facility will enhance the research hub of Tänikon, already home to Agroscope affiliated with the Federal Office for Agriculture and the Swiss Future Farm.

OST’s new institute will carry out applied research that will be embedded in the ongoing operations of the Swiss Future Farm. Head of Institute Dejan Šeatović explained that an accelerated transfer of knowledge from fundamental and applied research into practice is necessary in areas such as consumer participation, environmental protection, climate policy, competitiveness, subsidy policy and food supply security to keep pace in agriculture.

Daniel Seelhofer, President of OST, is confident that the collaboration between these organizations will “help us build on and develop our unique research expertise in the interplay of farming and technology – with impact far beyond the canton of Thurgau. The new institute is a prime example of positive collaboration between the university and the canton.”

Canton Thurgau is the main source of funding for the research institute, which was set up by OST on its behalf over the last few months. ce/ww
