Bühler joins Millers for Nutrition
Uzwil/Arlington - Bühler in the canton of St.Gallen has joined Millers for Nutrition. The coalition supports millers in food fortification in eight developing countries across Africa and Asia. Bühler will contribute its technology, expertise and training capacities.
Bühler has joined the initiative Millers for Nutrition, as the technology group from Uzwil has revealed in a press release. The coalition of key food fortification stakeholders supports millers in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan and Tanzania in adding vitamins and minerals to commonly consumed food. Bühler brings its cutting-edge technology, extensive expertise and training capacities to the initiative.
The company from Uzwil specializes in the food, feed and mobility industries. According to the press release, Bühler is a global leader in grain processing solutions. Bühler runs the African Milling School in Nairobi, Kenya, which has reportedly trained over 1,500 students from more than 25 countries since its opening in 2015. “Food fortification is one of the most effective ways to address the long-standing challenge of malnutrition, which affects about 3 billion people worldwide,” said Stefan Birrer, Head of Business Area Milling Solutions at Bühler. “By joining the coalition, we aim to effectively address this issue.” As well as training, Bühler’s teams in these countries will support on-the-ground implementation of fortification solutions.
Based in Arlington, Virginia, in the USA, Millers for Nutrition is powered by TechnoServe with funding support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Founding members of the coalition include dsm-firmenich, with dual headquarters in Heerlen in the Netherlands and Kaiseraugst in Aargau, Switzerland. ce/hs
