Cilander and Schoeller Textil manufacturing for the army
Bern – The Federal Office for Defence Procurement is commissioning new combat clothing for the army. Six companies have been tasked with manufacturing the camouflage fabric, two of which – Cilander and Schoeller Textil – come from the St.GallenBodenseeArea.
The Federal Office for Defence Procurement (armasuisse) has awarded contracts for the manufacture of the camouflage fabric for the army’s new combat clothing. After assessing many proposals, armasuisse has decided to collaborate with six companies. Four of these companies are from Switzerland and two are based in other European countries.
The chosen Swiss companies include Cilander from Herisau and Schoeller Textil AG from Sevelen, both in the St.GallenBodenseeArea. Cilander specializes in the finishing of technical textiles. It runs its own testing laboratory, offering textile finishing services at all levels, including pre-treatment, dyeing, high-grade finishing and final inspection. Schoeller Textil AG specializes in the sustainable development and production of innovative textiles and textile technologies.
In addition to the two companies from the St.GallenBodenseeArea, armasuisse contracts were won by Altra Management AG from Mitlödi in the canton of Glarus and E. Schellenberg Textildruck AG from Fehraltorf in the canton of Zurich. The two European partners are the Belgian company Utexbel and the Italian company NT Majocchi Srl.
According to information provided by armasuisse, all six production facilities are carrying out work steps within the manufacturing process. This means that “a significant part of the value added” will remain in the manufacturing country, thus largely in Switzerland.
