Ionic Wind Technologies receives 150,000 Swiss francs from Venture Kick
Schlieren/St.Gallen - The start-up promoter Venture Kick is supporting Ionic Wind Technologies with 150,000 Swiss francs. The funds will be used to further develop a technology for solid-state cooling that can replace conventional fan systems.
According to a press release, the startup Ionic Wind Technologies has gained an investment of 150,000 Swiss francs from Venture Kick to increase the efficiency of the air cooling in electronics and data centers. Ionic Wind is a spin-off from the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa) located in St.Gallen.
The startup has developed a solid-state cooling technology that uses electrostatic principles to move air and thus can completely replace conventional ventilation systems. Venture Kick states that traditional fan-based systems are inefficient, noisy, and unable to keep up with modern electronic requirements. This reportedly leads to energy wastage and inefficient cooling.
Ionic Wind Technologies is said to have a technology that is quiet, more energy efficient, and more compact for data centers and electronics. It can additionally be used for air cooling, drying, and purification according to the press release. Ionic Wind is reportedly focusing on air cooling in electronics and data centers initially, which is described as a rapidly growing market with a volume estimated at 19 billion US dollars.
Donato Rubinetti commented: “Venture Kick has been the rocket fuel we needed – accelerating us from lab concept to launch customers.” The company was founded by engineer Rubinetti and the entrepreneur Rico Chandra as well as Liubov Shishaeva, specializing in materials science, and Jan Fehse, who contributes extensive experience in sales and business development according to Venture Kick. ce/gba
